The entrance

The moment you step through the heavy wooden door of Casa Lecanda Boutique Hotel, it feels like entering an private villa, far away from the bustle of Mérida. You immediately sense that you’ve arrived somewhere special. The reception area is painted deep red, with black-and-white tiled floors, ornate chandeliers, lush greenery, artwork on the walls, and a large table displaying, Coqui Coqui fragrances from the region.

From the entrance, you can see straight through the property to a series of patios, that stretch the length of the building. Casa Lecanda is designed around several inner courtyards, each with its own unique character, surrounded by lush greenery and luxurious rooms.

The patios

The first patio features a peaceful fountain, framed by palms and tropical plants, and an original mosaic-tiled floor. Elegant arches lead you toward the breakfast area and the pool. Mérida can get quite hot, and there’s nothing better than cooling off with a dip in the pool after a day of exploring the city. Comfortable sofas, chairs, and loungers are spread throughout the space.

One of the most inviting corners lies just beyond, where you can sway gently in traditional Yucatán hammocks, above patterned blue-and-white tiles. Most of the rooms are located around this part of the hotel. My own room opened directly onto the hammock area, like a private terrace, and it quickly became my go-to spot in both the mornings and afternoons. A staircase from here leads to the upper rooms.
