Boutique hotel Uga Ulagalla Anuradhapura consists of 25 detached villas spread across a vast estate filled with jungle and rice fields. There are Ulagalla Pool Villas, Deluxe Pool Villas, and two-bedroom Nikawewa Villas. Each villa feels like its own little world, completely surrounded by greenery and tranquility, with a private pool, terrace and jungle views.


I stayed in the Ulagalla Pool Villa, which features a large bedroom, separate living room, and spacious bathroom, connected by a hallway. Large windows provide stunning views of the surrounding nature. The interior is luxurious and cozy, with wooden floors, warm colors, and subtle elements that reference the cultural heritage of the region.



The absolute highlight is the private plunge pool with terrace, where you can take a refreshing dip multiple times a day. The menu offers a mix of Sri Lankan, Eastern, and Western dishes. But it’s also very special to dine in the evening on your own terrace or right in the middle of the rice fields.

This exceptional restaurant is set right in the middle of the rice fields and brings ancient royal recipes back to life. The fantastic ladies and local chefs, Diluka and Manem explain in detail the traditional cooking techniques and utensils that have been used for over 2,000 years.



Then, you take your seat at a table in one of the most romantic settings, to enjoy 25 different types of curries, prepared in handmade clay pots over an open fire. After my trip in Sri Lanka, I found it wonderful to relax and fully enjoy the facilities at Uga Ulagalla. On your own, you can walk along the rice fields and the lake, or explore nearby villages by bike. Uga Ulagalla is also a perfect base for seeing more of the country. You can visit the historic city of Anuradhapura, the Sigiriya rock fortress, Polonnaruwa, or the Dambulla cave temple.
You can also book a safari in Wilpattu National Park or Minneriya National Park, all easily accessible. On the grounds of Uga Ulagalla Anuradhapura, you can also book a horseback riding tour, a scenic drive along the rice fields, birdwatching tour with a guide, or a kayak trip on the lake.
