Upon entering Uga Bay you are welcomed by a large gate that marks the transition to a world of sea, beach, and tranquility. Through a tunnelshaped entrance, you walk inside, already catching a glimpse of the sea in the distance. At the heart of Uga Bay boutique hotel lies the large swimming pool, surrounded by the restaurant, the bar, and the reception, all offering breathtaking views of the sea. The rooms are set within a tropical garden and are built in a crescent shape around the pool.

The rooms

Uga Bay has 48 stylish suites, spread across the grounds and over two floors. There are Beach Studios and Ocean Studios, all featuring large sliding windows that overlook the garden or the sea. I personally stayed in Beach Studio 44, directly on the beach and within rolling distance of the sea. And that is, of course, exactly what you want. There is also the Bay Suite and the Beach Villa, offering extra space, a private plunge pool, and direct access to the beach as well.

The style of the rooms is modern and light, with natural materials, wooden accents, and soft colors that blend beautifully with the surroundings. The rooms are spacious and feature a wonderful bed and a bathroom with a rain shower. Small gestures, from fresh flowers to a turndown service with daily chocolates, make your stay extra special.

The restaurant

In the restaurant of hotel Uga Bay Pasikuda, you are treated daily to a mix of local and international dishes. From traditional Sri Lankan curries to Mediterranean classics and fresh seafood: every meal is a little experience, with great attention to presentation and flavor. You can take a seat inside the restaurant or on the terrace overlooking the sea.

You can choose from half board, full board, or à la carte. I would recommend staying at least on a half-board basis so that you can enjoy the full menu. Both lunch and dinner include five delicious courses, which you can put together yourself.

There are also two bars, one of which is located directly on the beach, where you can enjoy delicious cocktails, with your feet in the sand, something you definitely don’t want to miss. And if the weather allows, a romantic dinner on the beach should not be missed. It truly doesn’t get any better than this.

What to do around Uga Bay Pasikuda Sri Lanka

Of course, you can choose to simply enjoy the sun, sea, and beach during your stay at Uga Bay. Something I would certainly recommend, especially if you have already made a round trip through Sri Lanka. But if you feel like exploring the surroundings, there is plenty to do.

Think of visiting local fishing villages and ancient temples, discovering the underwater world during a snorkeling or diving trip along the coral reef, or going in search of dolphins and whales during a boat trip (between May and October). Outside this season, it is quieter and greener, but the chance of rain showers is much higher.

How to reach Uga Bay in Pasikuda, Sri Lanka

Uga Bay boutique hotel is located on the east coast of Sri Lanka, in the coastal town of Pasikuda, known for its shallow turquoise bay and white sandy beaches. From Colombo, it is approximately a 6 to 7-hour drive by transfer, that can be easily found and booked through Bookaway. Another option is to fly to Batticaloa Airport, about an hour away, followed by a transfer to the lodge. Although the journey takes some time, you are rewarded with a stunning location and a less crowded region of Sri Lanka.
